Have you started a natural hair challenge for 2016 yet? Hair challenges are an awesome way to help you focus on your natural hair goals all while keeping you accountable to reaching your goals. Here are three natural hair challenges that you and your friends may try! Feel free to try them all!
No Heat Challenge – Heat can be harsh to our natural curls. Excessive use of heat can cause damage, split ends, breakage and shedding. By giving your hair a break from heat can truly improve the health of your curls and encourage length retention. With the challenge, you get to decide what type of heat you’ll take a break from, curling irons, flat irons, straightening combs and/or hooded dryers. The choice is up to you. Also, choose a time frame 1, 6 or 12 months and challenge yourself to stick with it! You can do it and your curl friends will help you stay accountable!
Castor Oil Challenge – Castor oil carries ricinoleic acid and omega-6 essential fatty acids, which accelerate blood circulation to the scalp, it is known to promote healthy hair growth. The challenge consists of repeatedly applying castor oil to your scalp and strands for a period of time, typically 3 to 4 times per week for 1 to 6 months or longer. Most of us really want that growth and you can expect your hair to have a healthier appearance after regular use including shine and moisture retention. Takes this challenge strengthen thinning edges or for your entire head.
Protective Style Challenge – Protecting the hair gives your hair a break from frequent manipulation with long term styles. Some protective styles are buns, braids, twists, sew-ins, faux locs and crochet braids. Wearing these styles for a specific period of time can help your hair flourish. You always want to make sure that you are properly caring for your hair by cleansing and applying the necessary treatments between styles. Buns are my go to protective style!
